The Cangrejeros of Santurce defeated the Mets of Guaynabo 99-92 on Monday night in a National Superior Basketball (BSN by its initials in Spanish) game held at Fernando “Rube” Hernández Coliseum in Gurabo.


Although Guaynabo (13-15) won the head-to-head series 3-1, by winning the fourth and final regular-season matchup between the two teams, Santurce (14-14) picked up a key victory in the race for BSN playoff qualification.


The Cangrejeros dominated the first half, building a 57-44 lead at the break.


Guaynabo began to chip away at Santurce’s lead in the third quarter, but Santurce still led by double digits entering the fourth, 81-71.


The Cangrejeros held on down the stretch despite being outscored in the final frame.


Isaiah Piñeiro led Santurce with 23 points. Davon Jefferson added 17 points and six rebounds, while DJ Wilson contributed 15 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Ángel Rodríguez finished with 12 points and eight assists, and Ian Clark added 11 points.


Ysmael Romero led the way for the Mets with 26 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Jaysean Paige added 20 points.
