Mets beat Osos in Gurabo

The Capitanes of Arecibo and the Mets of Guaynabo both recorded victories on Monday night in Superior National Basketball (BSN by its initials in Spanish) league games.
At the Palacio de Recreación y Deportes in Mayagüez, the Capitanes defeated the Indios 87-85 in a game decided in the final seconds, thereby putting together back-to-back victories following their win the previous day against the Atléticos of San Germán.
The Indios got off to a better start, taking the first quarter 25-18. In the second period, the Capitanes rallied to tie the score at 48 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Arecibo took control by winning the third quarter 26-19, entering the final period with a 74-67 lead.
The Capitanes maintained control through much of the fourth quarter, but the Indios rallied in the final minutes to pull within a single possession.
In the closing seconds, Arecibo executed from the free-throw line and defended the Indios’ final possession to secure the road victory.
Jack McVeigh led the Capitanes with 23 points, while Derrick Walton Jr. contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. Timothy Soares added 17 points and 8 rebounds, and Justin Reyes tallied 13 points.
Tyrell Harrison and Nathan Sobey led the way for the Indios with 24 points each, with Harrison also grabbing 15 rebounds.
At Fernando “Rube” Hernández Coliseum in Gurabo, the Mets of Guaynabo defeated the Osos of Manatí, 108-90.
The evenly played first quarter ended with the Osos leading 22-20. However, the Mets responded in the second period, outsourcing the Osos 32-23 to head into halftime with a 52-45 lead.
In the second half, Guaynabo took definitive control of the game by dominating the third quarter 27-18, widening the gap and entering the final period with a double-digit advantage.
In the fourth quarter, the Mets continued to click on offense to secure the victory.
Ysmael Romero led Guaynabo with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Torrey Craig, Devin Williams and Brandon Knight each contributed 17 points.
Kendric Davis of the Osos led all scorers with 22 points.
