Cayey Mayor Rolando Ortiz Velázquez and District 29 (Cidra-Cayey) Rep. Gretchen Hau Irizarry on Wednesday congratulated Benjamin Harrison School in Cayey for another historic triumph, this time one accomplished by three of its students.

“We congratulate the EatChiwi team, composed of José F. Ortiz Mulero, Efraín J. Ortiz Mulero and Faneshka Cartagena Maldonado, who were crowned champions of the ‘Future Engineers’ category in the National Robotics Olympics,” the mayor said. “We in Cayey promote quality education as well as exposure to high-level competitive events. What we have today with these young people is evidence of this.”

Hau noted that the three students, belonging to the school’s Electronics Pre-Engineering Workshop/Robotics Club, will represent Puerto Rico in the World Robot Olympiad 2026 (WRO 2026).

“Our congratulations to this talented team led by their coach, Edward J. Gonell Rodríguez, a former student of Benjamin Harrison, who demonstrated unparalleled expertise and technical mastery, being crowned the best in Puerto Rico in their category,” she said.

The WRO 2026 International Final will be held Dec. 8-10 in San Juan with the central theme “Robots Meet Culture.” The 2026 season (https://wro-association.org/competition/2026-season) challenges young people ages eight to 22 to explore how robotics protects, preserves and shares culture, art and heritage.
