Charges filed against pair who stole an elderly woman’s purse and dragged her across the ground

The Secretary of the Department of Justice, Domingo Emanuelli Hernández, reported that the Bayamón Prosecutor’s Office filed charges against Alfredo Jesús López Sánchez and Yeliel Rosario Rodríguez, accused of stealing the belongings of an elderly woman and dragging her along the pavement in front of the entrance to a supermarket on July 16 in the municipality of Bayamón.


For these events, prosecutor Yarrelly Sánchez Courtney filed two charges against each defendant, including elder abuse and aggravated robbery, under articles 127 (A) and 190 of the Puerto Rico Penal Code.


According to an investigation by Agent Jessica Rosa Álamo, assigned to the Property, Robbery, Assault, Fraud and Missing Persons Division of the Police Bureau, after the victim got out of her vehicle and walked to the supermarket, one of the defendants got out of a vehicle and snatched the victim’s purse. As a result of this, the elderly woman fell to the ground and suffered physical injuries.


Judge Milagros Muñiz Mas, of the Bayamón Court of First Instance, found cause for all charges brought by the Prosecutor’s Office and set a total bail of $120,000 for each defendant.


The preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 13.
