The two-time defending Women’s Premier Softball League (LPSF by its initials in Spanish) champion Bravas of Cidra stayed undefeated (4-0) as they swept the Caribeñas of Salinas, 1-0 and 4-3, in a doubleheader at Luis “Papa” Rivera Park in Cidra on Saturday.

Jasmin Speth and Odhi Vázquez combined for the shutout in the first game. The day’s second victory required a solid relief performance from Vázquez. After Speth allowed three runs in just one-third of an inning, Vázquez took over and dominated for 5.2 scoreless innings, racking up 11 strikeouts to secure the win.

In Humacao, the visiting Leonas of Ponce completed a sweep (8-2 and 10-0) of the Grises.

Janiliz Rivera and Jenelle Cruz led the Ponce offense in the first game, each hitting a home run. In the second game, Eden Echevarría and Yahelis Muñoz also homered for the Leonas.

Meanwhile, the Valencianas of Juncos and the Prodigiosas of Sabana Grande split their doubleheader.

The Valencianas took the first game 3-2, but the Prodigiosas bounced back in the second game with a 3-2 victory of their own.

Import pitcher Morgan Smith once again looked dominant for Sabana Grande in the nightcap, pitching all seven innings, allowing two unearned runs, and striking out eight batters.
