After several years in disuse and after a renovation process that will return to the Cidra community of La Cidro a first-class space for sports practice and family recreation, the municipality’s athletic track officially reopened this week.

“Cidra has always been a competitive municipality and dedicated to sports in all its branches,” Cidra Mayor Delvis Pagán Clavijo said in a press release Wednesday announcing the completion of the work. “Since sports are a powerful tool for development and health, one of the plans of this administration is to return sports spaces to our people; not only reopen them, but maintain them and make sure that they are suitable for use by all families. When I assumed the role as mayor and saw the facilities of the track so deficient and neglected, I vowed to develop a worthy project for our people. Today, ahead of schedule and with great joy, we reopen this track for the enjoyment of all.”

The mayor also revealed that the renovated track will be named after Jorge Luis “Yoyo” Ortiz Rivera, in recognition of his legacy as an excellent athlete, father, son, friend and human being committed to Puerto Rican society and sports.

In addition to his impressive sports career, Ortiz Rivera worked for 32 years in the island Department of Recreation and Sports, was technical director of the Inter-University Boards for 43 years and administrator of the historic Sixto Escobar track, contributing to the strengthening and development of athletics throughout the island.

What a beautiful way to honor a local sports figure—naming the track is a meaningful tribute! Speaking of honoring achievements, I recently used Sendwishonline.com to send a Happy retirement card to a colleague. Their group cards are perfect for celebrating milestones with heartfelt messages from everyone. Truly special!
