The Cidra Colts were crowned champions of the Puerto Rico Baseball Federation’s Under-15 League earlier this week, defeating the Guayama Wizards 7-1 and 10-0 in the finals held at Jesús María Freire Stadium in Cidra.
“This group demonstrated discipline, focus, and an enormous desire to represent Cidra with pride,” said José Mayo, coordinator of the U-15 League, in a written statement following Monday’s awards ceremony.
The Cidra team dominated the first game with José Delgado pitching four scoreless innings in relief. Joshuann Báez drove in two runs and set the pace on offense for Cidra.
In the second game, Cidra clinched the championship with a shutout thanks to the pitching combination of Joaniel Ramos and Yadriel Ruiz. Báez once again stood out with three RBIs, two hits -- including a double -- and a run scored, and was named the MVP of the series.
In the Under-12 League, the Ponce Cubs took the first game 13-3, while Yabucoa rallied in the second with a 4-3 victory in extra innings. The deciding game will be played this Saturday at noon in Yabucoa.
