Criollas punish Pinkin in 5th set for road win

In Saturday night’s only match on the Women’s Superior Volleyball League schedule, the visiting Criollas of Caguas emerged victorious over the Pinkin of Corozal in five sets at Carmen Z. Figueroa Court in Corozal.
The scores were: 25-23, 15-25, 25-18, 24-26 and 15-3.
The teams split the available points from the match. The Criollas earned two points to improve their record to 4-1 and move into first place with 10 accumulated points, a position they share with the Pinkin, who added one point and now have a 3-1 record with 10 points.
With the fifth set tied 1-1 after the teams split the first four sets, the Criollas went on a 10-0 run that started with an errant attack by Dayan Malavé in the middle and culminated with two cross-court kills by Alexandra Sczech from zone two.
Caguas reached set point at 14-3 after an errant attack by Jordan Illiff, and closed out the set and the match with an ace by Jangeliz Ramírez.
Caguas was led by Jenaisya Moore with 19 points, followed by Alexandra Sczech with 14, Stephanie Enright with 13 and Alba Hernández with 10.
Lindsay Krause was the top scorer for Corozal with 34 points, followed by Adriana Rodríguez with 13 and Illiff with 11.
In team statistics, Caguas outblocked Corozal 14-8, while the Pinkin held the edge in attacks (63-54), aces (4-2), digs (99-98), passes (54-32), and assists (17-16).
