Defending champion Dorado tops Orocovis in Coliceba opener

Friday night’s game was the only one played on opening day of the new Coliceba season, which was dedicated to former national team standout pitcher Jesús “Motora” Feliciano.

The Guapos of Dorado defeated the Caciques of Orocovis 10-2 in the Coliceba amateur baseball season opener on Friday night as four pitchers combined on a one-hitter at a packed Tomás Palmares Stadium in Dorado.

The game was the only one played on opening day of the new season, which was dedicated to standout former national team pitcher Jesús “Motora” Feliciano. As part of the opening ceremonies, the Guapos also dedicated their season to distinguished broadcaster and engineer Edgardo Pereira.

With the score tied at 2-2, Dorado rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, sparked by a three-run homer by Pedro Crespo.

The Guapos went on the attack again in the eighth, scoring four more runs to widen the gap.

Four Dorado pitchers limited Orocovis to just one hit in the game. Right-hander Andrés Santiago earned the win after pitching the first five innings, during which he allowed two unearned runs and struck out three batters. The pitching duties were rounded out by relievers Enrique Cotto, Josué Serrano and Rey Pérez.

Dereck Rodríguez took the loss for Orocovis after allowing six runs -- five of them unearned -- over five innings. He struck out five batters and gave up six hits.

Daniel Figueroa went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for Dorado, while Crespo finished with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Carlos Rodríguez had the lone hit for the Caciques.
