Incoming Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz said Monday that he is already preparing for the swearing-in of the new Legislative Assembly on Jan. 2 and the inaugural session on Jan. 13, both activities taking place at 11 a.m.

Rivera Schatz also announced that about 100 pastors, priests and other religious leaders will accompany the members of the island Senate on the day of the inaugural session.

“With all the situations we have experienced, from hurricanes Irma and Maria, the COVID-19 pandemic, to earthquakes, it is clear that the churches and faith-based organizations, along with the mayors, are the first line of support and rescue for families,” the incoming Senate leader said.

“For us in the Senate, it is important to be able to count on the commitment of religious leaders and faith-based organizations,” Rivera Schatz said. “The new Senate will begin its work recognizing the importance and need to have the advice of all these organizations and in the same way we will demonstrate, with actions, our unwavering commitment to work together to guarantee a Puerto Rico that protects the family and our traditional values.”

He added that he will be announcing various events as well as the bills that have been drafted and that will be filed on Jan. 2.
