The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation (FBPR by its initials in Spanish) was recognized as the Federation of the Year 2025 during the awards gala of the Sixth Congress of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), held this past weekend in Thailand.
It was the first time that the WBSC has awarded the distinction to Puerto Rico.
“This recognition reaffirms the strength of our Federation and the commitment we have made to the development of baseball in all its categories,” FBPR President Dr. José Daniel Quiles said in a written statement. “Puerto Rico has demonstrated that it can be a model of organization, innovation, and results on and off the field. It is an honor we share with the entire Puerto Rican baseball family.”
“This achievement belongs to everyone who is part of the baseball family in Puerto Rico: the managers, the Federation staff, the players, the managers, umpires, coaches, all leagues, and fans,” he added. “This motivates us to continue working even harder.”
The ceremony, which concluded the WBSC Congress, brought together federation presidents and representatives from more than 150 countries in an event dedicated to recognizing the achievements of players, coaches, umpires, scorers, and federations from the world of baseball and softball from 2022 to 2025.
Quiles received the award from WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari.
During 2025, the FBPR has continued to be active at the local and international levels. The U-18 National Team repeated its fifth-place finish at the WBSC World Cup, the U-23 Team earned silver at the Pre-World Cup, and the Baseball5 Youth Team made its World Cup debut.
Puerto Rico also holds seventh place in the WBSC women’s and men’s baseball rankings. In Baseball5, Puerto Rico moved from 56th to 31st in the world rankings, the largest increase of any country in the most recent WBSC update.
At the local level, the FBPR presented the 86th season of the Double A Superior Baseball League, and the seasons of the U-12, U-15, Double A Youth and Women’s leagues, as well as school tournaments with the Department of Education, are currently underway. Additionally, work is ongoing ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
At the same time, the FBPR strengthened its anti-doping program with the Puerto Rico Anti-Doping Organization. In addition, educational programs were established with clinics and certifications for coaches and referees.
