First Attack 2026 to attract competitive gamers from around the globe

First Attack 2026 will make Puerto Rico a meeting place for gamers, fans, content creators and esports communities from various international markets, with the event taking place Oct. 2-4 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan.

This year’s event will have participants from more than 15 countries, such as Japan, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Canada and Panama, thus creating an occasion that goes beyond the local gaming community and links Puerto Rico with the expanding international esports scene.

The international dimension creates an opportunity to develop a new branch of specialized tourism in Puerto Rico, according to the organizers.

“When a gamer decides to travel from another country to compete in Puerto Rico, they are not just buying a tournament entry. They are buying an experience,” said Yafed “Tiburón” Marrero, producer and host of the event. “They stay, eat, learn about our culture, and share their experience with their community when they return home.” 

First Attack 2026 will be part of major international fighting game circuits, including the TEKKEN World Tour, ARC World Tour and Granblue Fantasy Versus World Tour, as well as a 2XKO Challenger event. The participation places Puerto Rico on competitive calendars that connect players from around the world.

The event also seeks to leverage one of Puerto Rico’s distinguishing features: the ability to combine high-level competition with a Caribbean tourism experience. The organizers are offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy the island’s gastronomy, beaches, entertainment and cultural attractions before or after the competition.

“Puerto Rico has something that other destinations can’t necessarily offer: you can visit to compete in an international event and, at the same time, turn the trip into a vacation,” the event producer added. “That combination is an important part of what makes First Attack different.”

The experience also generates opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transportation, shops and other businesses that welcome visitors to the island for the event.

“What we want to demonstrate is that Puerto Rico can be much more than just a tournament venue,” Marrero said. “It can become the destination the international esports community wants to travel to.”

First Attack 2026 will feature more than 20 video game titles, professional and community competitions, cosplay, exhibitors, artists and other gaming culture experiences.
