Gov. Jenniffer González Colón and Cataño Mayor Julio Alicea Vasallo announced on Sunday the 249th celebration of the Independence of the United States this July 4th.

The event will be the central government’s official celebration of the Fourth of July.

“I appreciate the trust that Jenniffer González Colón’s administration has placed in our municipality,” Alicea Vasallo said in a written statement. “In Cataño, we have coordinated all logistical aspects, from security -- with electronic surveillance, the Municipal and State Police, and our Emergency Management Office -- to access control to the town, to ensure a safe and organized event. We have distinguished ourselves by successfully hosting large-scale events, and this July 4th will be no exception. Our commitment is that the people commemorate this date with the pride and dignity they deserve.”

Activities will begin at 3 p.m. with a formal ceremony on the Edwin Rivera Sierra Stage at the seafront. A civic-military parade will be held at 4 p.m., and beginning at 5 p.m. the public will be able to enjoy musical performances hosted by Jaime Mayol. The live music lineup includes:

• 5 pm – Mariano Cotto and His Trovadores Show

• 6:15 pm – Luisito Ayala and Puerto Rico Power

• 7:45 pm – La Banda Algarete

• 9 pm – Plenéalo

• 10:30 pm – The grand closing with the exclusive presentation of Poeta Herio and Elvis Crespo.
