Following Bad Bunny’s Grammy win for album of the year -- for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” the first Spanish-language recording to earn the coveted prize -- Gov. Jenniffer González Colón congratulated the superstar urban singer on the accomplishment.
“It is a source of pride for all Puerto Ricans that such a feat has been achieved and that it is a Puerto Rican artist who recorded it, and that he is the one representing us, positioning Puerto Rico in the world,” the governor said Monday in response to questions from the press. “I congratulate him and his entire production team for this major achievement.”
The Bayamón-born and Vega Baja-raised Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio -- artistically known as Bad Bunny -- who is set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show next Sunday, also took home Grammy trophies for best música urbana album, also for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” and best global music performance, for “EoO.”
In his acceptance speech for best música urbana album, Bad Bunny said: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out,” generating a roar of approval from the celebrities in attendance at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans.”
Senate President Thomas Rivera Schatz, meanwhile had less admiring words for the outspoken musician in a social media post, in which he also leveled a broadside at Puerto Rican Independence Party leader Juan Dalmau Ramírez:
“Good morning Puerto Rico:
This greeting is for the leftist acolytes and enablers of the local press.
Immigrants are not animals or objects, nor is any woman. To denigrate women with dirty and offensive lyrics or to denigrate an immigrant, to not recognize their rights, is the same act of contempt and is criminal! Only hypocrites have double standards.
Oh, and beyond the ‘Grammys,’ Juan Dalmau is still, (using ‘urban’ language) the same jerk as always, and the too! TRS”
