Governor and New Progressive Party (NPP) Chairwoman Jenniffer González Colón welcomed the newly elected representative of House District 31, who was chosen Sunday in a special election.
“I congratulate Representative Roberto López Román, who was elected today and is also the [NPP] municipal president of Caguas, and I wish him every success in his new role,” the governor said. “I thank all the voters in District 31 (Gurabo and Caguas) who came out to vote today to elect their new representative. I also recognize the efforts of [candidates] José Cabán, Alberto Fradera, Ana Margarita Ruiz Ramos, and Michael López Saldaña, who made themselves available to serve the people and participated in this special election today. Our party is strengthened by this election.”
López Román, who garnered 677 votes, will fill the seat vacated by Rep. Vimarie Peña, who was elected mayor of Gurabo. The runner-up in the polling was Fradera, with 633 votes.
NPP Electoral Commissioner Aníbal Vega Borges announced that a recount will be held to certify the final results today starting at 8 a.m.
