Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced the extension of the government’s contract with destination marketing organization Discover Puerto Rico during the FITUR 2026 International Tourism Fair taking place this week in Madrid.
“The contract that will soon be finalized includes a five‑year extension, reaffirming the Government of Puerto Rico’s commitment to a sustained international promotion strategy focused on strengthening the destination’s competitiveness, expanding its reach in key markets, and maximizing tourism’s economic impact,” González Colón said late Tuesday.
Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel emphasized the importance of continuing the partnership.
“We are very pleased to continue working hand‑in‑hand with Discover Puerto Rico to keep driving the international promotion and marketing of Puerto Rico,” she said. “The island’s tourism sector is experiencing a great moment, and we reiterate our commitment to the development of this industry, as well as to being ready to welcome more visitors from diverse international markets.”
Discover Puerto Rico CEO Jorge L. Pérez welcomed the announcement, calling it a vote of confidence in the organization’s work and long‑term vision.
“We enthusiastically and deeply appreciate the news of the extension of Discover Puerto Rico’s contract through 2033,” he said. “It is an honor that the governor of Puerto Rico and the Tourism Company’s executive director have once again placed their trust in our organization to continue leading the promotion and marketing of the destination in national and international markets.”
Pérez added that the organization remains committed to elevating Puerto Rico’s position as a premier global destination.
“Today we celebrate this step with hope and determination, and we reaffirm our commitment to continue working with energy, enthusiasm, and excellence to highlight all of Puerto Rico’s competitive advantages as an extraordinary destination before the world,” he said.

Hi guys, interesting you mentioned long term contracts there. The comments on that AI page kept circling around trust and honestly long deals make that even more stressful. I once signed a multi year agreement thinking it was fine then spent months fixing small issues that added up to about 9% extra cost. When I later explored tools I tried slipping in contract intelligence tools for procurement during review and it gave me a clearer breakdown of risk areas. Not dramatic but enough to avoid repeating the same mistake. Do you actually read every clause in those long contracts or just scan and hope for the best?
