Gov. Jenniffer González Colón said Monday that she instructed the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) to mobilize all necessary resources to urgently address a break in the Superaqueduct in the Manatí area, which will leave more than 15 municipalities without water service for between 36 and 48 hours.

“Yesterday at noon, a 72-inch break was identified in an area of dense vegetation, which required clearing and excavation work because it is located in a difficult-to-access area,” the governor said at a press conference in Aguadilla. “Machinery has already been mobilized and [PRASA] is working today to clear the land.”

The governor asked PRASA to ensure that crews work uninterruptedly to reduce the estimated repair time.

“This emergency needs to be addressed urgently,” she said. “I have asked the Authority to deploy all necessary crews to minimize this time.”

The Antonio Santiago Superacueducto plant provides service to Manatí, Vega Alta, Dorado, Barceloneta, Morovis, Vega Baja, Caguas, Gurabo, Juncos, San Juan, Trujillo Alto, Carolina, Loíza, Bayamónand Guaynabo, among other municipalities.

González Colón added that PRASA is coordinating with the municipalities on the oasis and water tanker truck plan to supply drinking water to the most affected areas.

“The list of areas where the water tankers will be deployed will be published later today,” she said.
