Governor submits 17 new nominations, mostly in Justice Dept.

Gov. Jenniffer González Colón announced Tuesday the submission of 17 new appointments to the island Senate aimed at reinforcing the administration of justice and filling vacancies on boards and commissions.
All appointments will take effect once they are reviewed and confirmed by the Senate.
For the Department of Justice, the governor designated Alexandra Villamán Santiago and Katiria E. Encarnación García as assistant prosecutors I. Attorney Itzamar Peña Ramírez was appointed as family affairs prosecutor, while María S. Sánchez Pellicier and Edgardo J. Rosado Cortés were named assistant prosecutors II, with Rosado Cortés receiving a promotion.
In the judiciary, González nominated Yahaira López Mercado and Ramón A. Burgos Bermúdez as municipal judges for the Court of First Instance. She also appointed Angie Acosta Irizarry, Thaizza M. Rodríguez Pagán, Mónica Ballestero Pascual, Helen M. León Alvarado and Alexis Álvarez del Valle as Superior Court judges.
Additionally, Evelyn J. González Rodríguez was named administrative judge for the Child Support Administration.
For regulatory bodies, Geralyvette Torres Nazario was appointed commissioner of the Puerto Rico Industrial Commission, and Hiram Medina Rivera was named to the Pilots Commission.
Finally, Dr. Carmen T. Ruiz de Fischler was appointed to the board of directors of both the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts and Design Corporation and the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture.
