Guayama, Carolina earn victories as Double-A playoffs take shape.

The Brujos of Guayama and the Gigantes of Carolina notched victories on Monday in the Double-A Superior Baseball League.

The Brujos defeated the Potros of Santa Isabel, 10-3.

The result eliminated the Potros (8-12) from contention and secured a postseason berth for both the Brujos (10-10) and the Peces Voladores of Salinas (9-11).

Consequently, the possibility of a challenge game between the South and Central sections was also ruled out.

Right-hander Ramón Garriga pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the win for Guayama. Alexis García, Cristián Rosa and Jean Alvarado worked in relief, with Alvarado earning the save.

Omar Gómez spearheaded the offense with three RBIs, while Edison Mora and Christian Maldonado each scored two runs.

The loss went to Santa Isabel’s Christian Rivera Renovales.

In the Southern semifinals, the Peces Voladores will face the Poetas of Juana Díaz in Series A, while the Maratonistas of Coamo will square off against the Brujos in Series B.

In inter-sectional play, the Gigantes of Carolina walked off the Titanes of Florida with a 5-4 victory, courtesy of a “golden hit” by Enok Pérez that drove in Kevin Santiago in the 10th inning.

Carolina finished in second place in the Metro Section with a 13-7 record, while Florida finished at 10-10 and currently holds fourth place in the North Section.

Kevin Santiago and Kemuel Thomas hit home runs for the Gigantes. Reliever Carlos Rivera earned the win, while Joshua Santiago took the loss.
