Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives Carlos “Johnny” Méndez Núñez announced details of the funeral services for former House Speaker José Ronaldo “Ronny” Jarabo Álvarez, which will take place today at the Capitol.

“The House of Representatives joins together to say ‘goodbye’ to one of its own, José ‘Ronny’ Jarabo, who was a member of this legislative body for two decades,” Méndez Núñez said in a written statement.

Jarabo Álvarez’s body will arrive at the Capitol at 11 a.m. escorted by the Puerto Rico National Guard. The official services will be held in the Constitution Rotunda, where the body will lie in state for a limited period before opening the proceedings to the public.

The funeral was coordinated in conjunction with Jarabo Álvarez’s widow, Madeline Rolón, and his children, José Luis and Ana María Jarabo. During the ceremony, an ecumenical ceremony will be led by Pastor Josué Carrillo Quiñones.

The first honor guard will be led by former House Speakers Zaida Cucusa Hernández Torres, Carlos Vizcarrondo Irizarry, José Aponte Hernández, Jaime Perelló Borrás and Gov. Jenniffer González Colón, who presided over the chamber from 2009 to 2012.

Additional honor guards will be led by current and former representatives. At the end of the ceremony, the coffin will be transferred to the San Juan Municipal Cemetery.
