Rep. Víctor Parés Otero, who chairs the Government Committee in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, announced Sunday that he will be summoning Janisse Quiñones, the new president and CEO of LUMA Energy, the private operator of the island’s electric power transmission and distribution network, to a public hearing scheduled for early April.

“The public policy of the Puerto Rican government is to remove the private operator LUMA as soon as possible, and the case brought by our governor, Jenniffer González, is proceeding,” the San Juan District 4 legislator said. “While that removal is being finalized, this private operator must continue operating. Therefore, we want to know the details that the new president of LUMA, Ms. Janisse Quiñones, will bring.”

Last Wednesday, LUMA announced that effective April 1, Quiñones would be replacing Juan Saca, who has served as president and CEO of the consortium since 2023.

“We will hold a public hearing so that the president of LUMA can explain to the people of Puerto Rico her plan to address a variety of issues, including clearing vegetation near transmission lines, as well as the status of infrastructure reconstruction work, such as substations, among others,” Parés said. “We want this exchange to be public, not behind closed doors. The people will have the opportunity to hear each question and the answers.”
