The administrative director of the court system, Sigfrido Steidel Figueroa, reported on Monday that the Judicial Branch will implement a special operational plan starting this Thursday due to the Thanksgiving period.

“The Judicial Branch will operate under a special plan to guarantee essential services during the Thanksgiving period,” Steidel Figueroa said in written statements.

He explained that all courts and administrative offices will operate under regular hours through Wednesday, November 26. Beginning Thursday, November 27 — a holiday — and continuing through Sunday, November 30, the judicial centers, satellite courts, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the Office of Court Administration will remain closed.

The official detailed that the Investigation Room in Aguadilla will operate from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; the one in Mayagüez from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and the one in Ponce from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition, the investigation rooms of Bayamón and San Juan will be consolidated at the Investigation Room of the Bayamón Judicial Center, operating from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The remaining judicial regions will operate through the on-call judges system, available via calls from the nearest police precinct. The Electronic Court will remain available for filing protection orders, involuntary mental health admissions, and other urgent matters.

Likewise, the Supreme Court extended until the next business day any deadline that falls within the dates of complete closure.

The Judicial Branch urged the public to consult its official website and social media channels for additional information and updates.
