Lefty starter Luis Cintrón starred on Saturday night in a “no hit-no run” outing as the host Mules of Juncos beat the Titans of Florida 8-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the Double A Superior Baseball A semifinal.
Cintrón went the distance with 11 strikeouts and just two walks. In total, he made 108 pitches, with 70 in the strike zone. The game ended with Daniel Figueroa going down on strikes.
The Mules set the tone from the very first inning with a six-run burst, the product of a passed ball, a deep sacrifice fly by Alexis Goytía and doubles by José Rivera and Luis Hernández. In the fourth inning, Juncos added two runs with a single by Hernández and a fielder’s choice.
Left-hander Joshua Santiago gave up Juncos’ eight runs over three innings to take the loss.
The series continues on Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m. at Pedro Román Meléndez Stadium in Manatí.
