The Leones of Patillas won the 12th edition of the Double-A Superior Baseball League Champions Cup on Sunday, defeating the Petroleros of Peñuelas 5-1 at Mariano “Niní” Meaux Stadium in Juncos.
Patillas finished the 2026 preseason preparatory tournament undefeated with a 3-0 record, after also defeating the Pescadores del Plata of Comerío and the Mulos of Juncos.
“These guys wanted it, they wanted to win this tournament. We are super happy,” Leones (Lions) manager Juan “Tury” Lebrón said in a written statement. “The Patillas fans can expect a good team that will do a tremendous job.”
Four pitchers combined for Patillas to limit the Petroleros (Oilers) to four hits. The winning pitcher was left-hander Ryan Muñoz, who pitched four innings in relief, allowing no runs and striking out four.
Muñoz relieved fellow left-hander Sidney Duprey, who worked the first three innings and struck out three batters. Relievers Carlos Jazmín and Jean Pabón completed the pitching effort.
Offensively, Geomar Santana went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
At the end of the game, the Leones manager received the trophy from Puerto Rico Baseball Federation Executive Director Efraín Williams González.
