Catcher Will Simoneit will be one of the Leones of Ponce’s imports for the 2025-26 season, the team’s general manager Edwin Rodríguez announced earlier this week.
“A versatile right-handed hitter, although his regular position will be catcher, he also has the ability to play first and third base,” Rodríguez said in a written statement issued Wednesday night.
Simoneit, 28, began his professional career in 2021 and was promoted to Triple-A in 2022 with the Athletics organization. In 2024, he played in the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies farm systems at the AA and AAA levels.
In 2025, he played with the York Revolution in the Atlantic League, where he hit 17 home runs and 19 doubles, drove in 61 runs, and scored 67 runs in 81 games, batting .286 with an on-base percentage of .389.
Rodríguez added that Simoneit will report to training camp on Oct. 17 and plans to remain with the team for the entire season.
Simoneit’s signing joins Anthony Calarco and Dalton Guthrie as part of the Leones’ imports contingent.
The Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League opens on Friday, Nov. 7, when Ponce hosts the Indios of Mayagüez at Francisco “Paquito” Montaner Stadium.
