LMM Airport receives flights diverted due to temporary closure in Miami

Spokespersons for Aerostar Puerto Rico said operations at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in Carolina were continuing on Sunday while they monitored the effects of a temporary suspension of operations (ground stop) implemented in the afternoon at Miami International Airport (MIA). 

The monitoring followed an incident in which an Amazon Prime Air cargo plane, which had departed from San Juan, veered off the runway upon landing in Miami.

As a result of operational restrictions at MIA, three American Airlines flights en route to Miami were to be diverted to San Juan:

* AA3465, arriving from Dominica, with an estimated arrival time of 3:47 p.m.

* AA2691, arriving from Fort-de-France, Martinique, with an estimated arrival time of 4 p.m.

* AA4316, arriving from Maracaibo, Venezuela, with an estimated arrival time of 4:45 p.m.

As of Sunday afternoon there had been no reports of a general disruption to operations at the San Juan airport. However, it was advised that flights bound for Miami could experience changes while restrictions remained in effect at that airport.
