Loíza Mayor Julia Nazario Fuentes expressed gratitude Sunday at the outcome of a meeting held last Friday between the secretary of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DNER) and the Parcelas Suárez Community regarding the coastal erosion crisis in the area, specifically on Calle 10, where Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) and LUMA Energy infrastructure has already been lost.
“We are extremely grateful for the recent actions of the DNER, as after a year of complaints, together with residents of Parcelas Suárez, they reached an agreement to address the coastal erosion situation in that community,” Nazario Fuentes stated.
After reaching agreements with community leaders, the DNER committed to addressing the emergency situation caused by the damage on 10th Street, at the corner of 3rd Street, while also working on a medium and long-term project to mitigate the damage along the entire coastline.
“We are pleased, especially because we are certain that a more ambitious project will be undertaken there, given their greater financial resources,” Nazario Fuentes said. “The community is hopeful, and our administration is hopeful that the residents of the area will finally be able to enjoy peace of mind. Certainly, there is much to be done along our entire coastline, and as we have done until now, we will continue to address each of our communities one at a time.”
