Eighteen-year-old Elián Rodríguez Asencio was jailed Saturday night after failing to post bail on charges of femicide, destruction of evidence, carrying, transporting, or using a firearm without a license, discharging or pointing a firearm, and possession and use of ammunition in connection with an incident reported last Friday in Mayagüez.

According to the police report, Rodríguez Asencio arrived at the Mayagüez Police Headquarters with the bullet-riddled body of 22-year-old Glerys Marie del Valle Valentín inside a gray Hyundai Elantra.

Judge Arnellie Carlo Rivera found probable cause for trial and set bail at $400,000, which Rodríguez Asencio did not post.

He was booked and taken to the Ponce Correctional Institution. The preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 14.
