Man struck and killed while eating breakfast at roadside food truck

A man who was having breakfast at a roadside food truck in Hormigueros died Wednesday morning when a driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an outdoor snack bar where the victim was eating.

A man who was having breakfast at a roadside eatery died Wednesday morning after being hit by a vehicle on highway PR-309 in Hormigueros.


According to the preliminary report, the driver of a red Ford Ranger, identified as Pedro Nicolás Sanabria Tirado, 70 years old, a resident of Lajas, was traveling toward San Germán on highway PR-114 when he lost control of the steering wheel near the intersection with PR-309 and hit a snack bar next to a fast food truck known as “El Mofongazo.”


Carlos Ismael Cupeles Pabón, a 65-year-old resident of Cabo Rojo who was eating at the snack bar, died on the spot.


Personnel from the Highway Patrol Division, the Technical Services Division of the Mayagüez Criminal Investigation Corps, and the prosecutor on duty were on site investigating the incident.
