A $38 million Puerto Rican investment has transformed a long-standing Isla Verde hotel into the new Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort, marking a significant milestone for the Carolina tourism district and underscoring the strength of the island’s hospitality sector.

The beachfront property, operated for 23 years under the Courtyard by Marriott brand, has entered a new chapter as a full-service resort. The owners unveiled the renovation earlier this week, highlighting a project that modernizes the hotel’s offerings while preserving a distinctly Puerto Rican identity through local design, talent and cultural elements.

“This investment reflects our owners’ commitment to and confidence in Puerto Rico, Isla Verde, and the potential of the tourism industry,” said Peter Hopgood, president of International Hospitality Development, on Tuesday.

He noted that the timing aligns with one of the island’s strongest tourism periods, driven by the promotional efforts of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and Discover Puerto Rico.

The transformation includes fully renovated guest rooms, a redesigned lobby and bar, expanded culinary spaces, upgraded service areas, and new energy-efficient climate control systems. The resort now features 260 private balconies overlooking Isla Verde Beach and sits minutes from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, positioning it to attract leisure travelers, business visitors, groups, conventions, weddings and social events.

General Manager Efraín Rosa said today’s travelers expect an integrated experience that blends comfort, gastronomy, beach access, design and service.

“This renovation allows us to meet those expectations while delivering the warmth, care, and sense of belonging that distinguish our team,” he said.

A defining element of the project is its commitment to Puerto Rican talent. The owners intentionally selected local architects, designers, contractors, artists and other professionals to lead every stage of the transformation. The decision ensured that the investment remained on the island, generating jobs and strengthening the local economy.

The resort’s new aesthetic incorporates Puerto Rican art, visual elements, and ambiance designed to immerse guests in the destination from the moment they arrive. The culinary program features Meso, Destilado, Café Colao, and Papaya Oceanfront Grill, blending Marriott’s international standards with local flavors.

With its relaunch, the Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort aims to become one of Isla Verde’s leading beachfront hospitality destinations -- an example of local capital meeting global standards to deliver an authentically Puerto Rican experience.
