More than 1,100 athletes have registered so far for the 14th edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, a number that anticipates record participation and could exceed 1,300 competitors, according to the organizers.
“From the early stages of the registration process, we have seen an extraordinary response,” said Arturo Díaz, president of BN Sports and event organizer, in a written statement. “Everything indicates that this year we will surpass last year’s participation, which reaffirms Puerto Rico’s position as an attractive and competitive venue within the IRONMAN circuit.”
The 2025 edition featured 1,185 athletes, of whom 351 were local, while for 2026, participation is projected to be close to 1,300 competitors, with athletes mainly from the United States, Colombia, France, Venezuela and Canada.
In addition to its sporting impact, the event generates economic activity in the metropolitan area. Estimates from the Puerto Rico Tourism Company project some 3,772 hotel nights and an economic impact of approximately $2.2 million for 2026, as well as the creation of more than 95 direct and indirect jobs related to the planning and execution of the competition.
“The fact that the island is once again hosting IRONMAN 70.3 Puerto Rico reaffirms our position and visibility as a leader in sports tourism internationally,” Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel said.
The event will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, which will be held in Nice, France, with 30 slots available for qualifying competitors. The competition will begin in the Condado Lagoon, continue with the cycling segment along the north coast to Dorado, and conclude with the running portion in Old San Juan, finishing at Third Millennium Park.
