Morovis Mayor Carmen Maldonado González met on Wednesday with Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA) Executive President Luis González Delgado, along with his technical and infrastructure team, to discuss definitive solutions to the water crisis that has plagued the town for years.

During the meeting, the findings and recommendations of the engineers hired by the central mountain municipality were reviewed, as well as the projects identified by PRASA to address the areas of greatest need.

At the meeting, numerous alternatives were evaluated, many of them highly viable, and it was agreed that PRASA will submit an executive summary of the infrastructure projects that are close to beginning, as well as those whose design is in an advanced stage. Those projects include permanent improvements, with a multi-million-dollar investment already identified by the executive branch, which will be developed in the short, medium and long term.

In the initial phase, the work will include the replacement of pipes and valves in critical areas.

“I appreciate the willingness of the PRASA president to visit our town and listen firsthand to the needs of our people,” the mayor said. “This meeting confirms that when we join forces, as we have done with the governor, the results translate into concrete actions for the benefit of all Moroveños.”

Maldonado González also acknowledged the support of Gov. Jenniffer González Colón for “making available the necessary resources to address this historic problem” and announced that a public announcement will be made in the coming weeks regarding the construction schedule.

“This has been a constant struggle since 2017,” the mayor added. “Today we can say that we are closer than ever to ending this crisis.”
