The administrator of the Child Support Administration (ASUME), María del Mar Mateu Meléndez, announced on Tuesday the launch of the campaign “Your children don’t eat excuses”, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the importance of complying with child support payments.
“At ASUME, we see how delays in child support payments affect the stability and overall development of many of our children and young people. Behind each case are minors who depend on these resources to cover basic needs such as food, education, and well-being,” said Mateu Meléndez in a written statement.
The campaign seeks to reinforce the responsibility of non-custodial parents for the well-being of their children and promote compliance with child support obligations.
According to the official, the visual concept of the initiative shows children opening lunchboxes, refrigerators or pans with the expectation of finding food, but instead they find papers with common excuses related to non-compliance with child support payments.
Mateu Meléndez pointed out that the contrast between the children’s expectations and the reality they face aims to highlight the impact that non-compliance has on their daily lives.
“Excuses don’t meet a child’s needs. Commitment, responsibility, and providing for their needs do make a difference in their development and quality of life,” he added.
The official indicated that the initiative is part of the agency’s outreach efforts to promote compliance with child support obligations and encourage parental responsibility.
