Vieques Mayor José “Junito” Corcino Acevedo announced Thursday that the Infrastructure Financing Authority (AFI by its initials in Spanish) and the offshore island’s municipal administration have completed and officially delivered the new medical facilities in Vieques to the Puerto Rico Department of Health, according to the established schedule.
The investment in the project, totaling $85 million, makes it the most modern healthcare facility in Puerto Rico, with an approximate capacity of 59,000 square feet.
The new facility will provide access to general and specialized medical services for Vieques, including dialysis, an emergency room, outpatient clinics, a pharmacy, a laboratory and diagnostic imaging services, among others.
The inauguration ceremonies will be held as soon as the relevant health and government inspections are completed, the mayor noted.
Corcino Acevedo expressed his gratitude for this fulfilled commitment, which benefits all Vieques residents, and acknowledged the support of all members of the municipal, state and federal governments.
