Vimarie Peña Dávila, the District 31 lawmaker, has submitted her resignation letter to the Puerto Rico House of Representatives.

Peña, who was elected to the Legislature last November, noted during Monday’s session that her decision marks the beginning of a new chapter in her public service career. She will soon take on her responsibilities as the mayor of Gurabo, having prevailed by a sizable margin in the recent special election.

In her letter, Peña expressed gratitude to the constituents who elected her to represent them in the House, emphasizing the support she received from her fellow legislators, administrative staff, and her team.

“Today, I close a very special chapter in my life,” Peña Dávila said. “Representing my district was both an honor and a commitment that I fulfilled wholeheartedly. I thank every citizen who placed their trust in me, and I want to assure you that I will continue to work with the same dedication in my new role as mayor of Gurabo.”
