Pinkin come back in Caguas as LVSF standings get tighter at the top

The fourth week of action in the Women’s Superior Volleyball League (LVSF by its initials in Spanish) concluded on Saturday with victories for the Pinkin of Corozal, the Cangrejeras of Santurce and the Leonas of Ponce.


At Roger Mendoza Vidal Coliseum in Caguas, the Pinkin came from behind to steal a five-set match against the Criollas of Caguas, handing the hosts their third loss of the season and second in a row.


The scores were 19-25, 21-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 15-13. With the result, Corozal earned two points and Caguas one.


With the match tied at two sets apiece, Corozal took a 10-6 lead in the deciding fifth set thanks to a block on Alexandra Sczech and a net violation by the Criollas.


Caguas responded with a 4-1 run that included a block by Génesis Collazo on Lindsay Krause to tie the score at 11, but the Pinkin weathered the storm and sealed the set 15-13 after an offensive error by Valeria Flores.


Jordan Iliff led the Corozal offense with 24 points, followed by Krause with 20 and Ivania Ortiz with 14.


Jenaisya Moore led Caguas with 12 points, while Sczech finished with 11 points and Diana Reyes had 10.


With the victory, Corozal improves to 5-3 and 15 points, remaining in second place. Caguas held on to the top spot with a 6-3 record and 17 points.


Santurce remains undefeated


In Hato Rey, the Cangrejeras notched their fifth victory in as many outings, dominating the Atenienses of Manatí in straight sets.


The scores were 25-16, 25-13 and 25-15, earning Santurce the three available points and solidifying their third-place position with a 5-0 record and 14 points.


Manatí failed to score any points and fell to fourth place with a  2-6 record and 10 points.


Leonas survive in five sets


At Salvador Dijols Coliseum in Ponce, the Leonas prevailed in five sets against the Valencianas of Juncos with scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-18, 28-30 and 15-13.


Ponce earned two points, placing them in sole possession of fifth place with a 3-5 record and 7 points.


The Valencianas added one point in the loss and returned to last place with a 2-6 record and 6 points.
