Puerto Rico Police Superintendent Joseph González announced Monday that investigators have identified possible suspects in last month’s shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in Loíza.

González also asserted that members of the Loíza community know who was involved in the shooting, and police are asking for their cooperation with the investigation.

“We don’t want to share too many details to avoid compromising the investigation, but we can confirm progress has been made. There are suspects,” González said during a press conference at Police Headquarters.

“Again, I appeal to the community and local residents: Our intelligence indicates that you know who is responsible. We ask that you contact the police anonymously,” he added. “We always seek your support. Any information you provide could be crucial to this case.”

The victim was identified as 14-year-old Rosinelys Marcano Carrasquillo. Another 14-year-old was wounded in the shooting.

The incident occurred on the night of March 29 in the Tocones sector of Loíza.

The investigation is ongoing, with interviews underway and video evidence being collected.

The police superintendent emphasized that “the intelligence we have is that several people know who is responsible.”

When asked about concerns over vigilante action before an arrest, González responded, “That is always a concern, and that is why we have increased patrols in that area specifically.”

According to the preliminary investigation, individuals on two motorcycles approached the vehicle carrying the two girls, who had just participated in a volleyball tournament, and opened fire on the red Kia.

Inspector Robert Ramos, deputy director of the auxiliary superintendency of criminal investigations, reiterated that “a motorcycle was seized,” but stated they are still “verifying whether it is related to the case.” He confirmed that “there have been no arrests” and added that there were “some interventions in Loíza for interviews.”
