Puerto Rico Police warned citizens on Wednesday about the increase in car thefts across the island, and urged them not to leave valuables or cash inside their vehicles.
“Citizens are urged not to leave any valuable items or cash inside their cars under any circumstances,” the police said in a written statement.
The most recent case occurred on Wednesday at 4:37 p.m. on Highway 167, a hardware store parking area in Bayamón. A 66-year-old man reported that an unknown person broke the window of his 2021 Mitsubishi Nativa and illegally stole $3,000 in cash.
Officer Luis Rivera, from the Bayamón Centro police precinct, investigated the case and referred it to the Property Division of the Criminal Investigation Corps (CIC) of Bayamón for further investigation.
The Police urged citizens to provide any information that would help clarify these cases. They can call the confidential line of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau at 787-343-2020. They can also contact through X (formerly Twitter) at @PRPDNoticias or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/prpdgov.
