PR earns 3 golds & a bronze at CAC Games

Puerto Rico added three gold medals and one bronze on Tuesday, maintained its winning momentum in team sports, and secured new qualifications during another productive day at the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games (Santo Domingo 2026).
Puerto Rican swimmers led the way with three gold medal performances. Xavier Ruiz won the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, .80 seconds; Kristen Romano successfully defended her title in the 200-meter individual medley with a CAC Games record of 2:12.16; and Lucianna Gutiérrez won gold in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 8:56.90.
Bowlers also contributed to the medal count with a bronze medal won by Sarah Sanes and Zoriani Reyes, who finished third in the women’s doubles event with a total of 2,563 pins.
In team sports, the women’s softball team extended its unbeaten streak by defeating Venezuela 3-0 in a no-hitter. Puerto Rico improved its preliminary round record to 3-0 and secured a spot in the super round. The victory leaves the team one win away from clinching a medal when they face the Virgin Islands.
The men’s basketball team also maintained its perfect record by beating Panama 70-56, improving to 2-0 in Group B and staying in contention for a semifinal spot.
In women’s beach volleyball, the duo of MarÃa González and Allanis Navas kept things close against Cuba before falling in three sets (19-21, 21-16, 15-12). Despite the loss, Puerto Rico holds a 2-1 record and remains in the running to advance to the next round.
The women’s field hockey team suffered its second loss of the tournament, falling 5-1 to Mexico, and now holds a 0-2 record in Group A.
In shooting competitions, Patrick MartÃnez Margine advanced to the next round of the men’s trap event, while Augusta Camps-Martyn and Ana Bermúdez Latorre finished the first day of women’s trap qualifying in first and third place, respectively.
