With key results in the group stage, Puerto Rican tennis players began to make their mark in the international J30 Bayamón tournament -- part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors -- during matches held earlier this week at the Honda Tennis Center.

Puerto Rican players Bela Martínez Rivero and Amalia Bures secured important victories on Monday that placed them firmly in contention within their respective groups. Martínez Rivero dominated her match with a score of 7-5, 6-0, while Bures won a hard-fought three-set match, demonstrating competitive resilience in the initial stage of the tournament.

Both results carry significant weight within the round-robin format, where every match is crucial for advancing to the next stage.

The women’s draw also featured the participation of Lara Sofía Rodríguez Jiménez, Valentina Martin, Valentina Fuentes Bigio, Paola Paredes, Andrea Maldonado Figueroa, and Isabell López Parrilla, who remain in action as they seek to add victories in their respective groups.

In the men’s division, Puerto Ricans Mario Andrés Miranda Guzmán, Cyrus Josephs, Marco Rodríguez García, Ernesto del Valle, and Marco Pérez faced a demanding opening day against international players.

“It fills us with pride to see our players start off on solid footing in this international tournament,” said Dr. William Micheo, president of the Puerto Rico Tennis Association. “Events like the J30 in Bayamón represent a key platform for the development of our young athletes, allowing them to compete at a high level and continue their growth within the junior circuit.”

The matches are being held on multiple courts under the tournament’s group stage format. The event continues throughout the week at the Honda Tennis Center in Bayamón and is open to the public.

ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors tournaments are classified by competitive level: J60 events award more points toward the junior world rankings, while J30 events are part of the development circuit, where players continue to gain experience and international ranking points.
