The group “Jornada Se Acabaron Las Promesas” (The Promises Are Over Campaign) held a protest early Wednesday morning on PR-165 in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Guaynabo.
The protest was held “in repudiation of the increased military presence on the island and the threats against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”
“The United States government is using ‘drug trafficking’ as a pretext to justify the siege, intimidation, and threat of a military invasion against the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela,” the group stated in written declarations. “It intends to force our people to believe that the new military escalation in the region will bring some level of progress or economic benefits to the island, assuring that passively submitting to this crime will be advantageous for the people. The increased military presence on the island will only stimulate continued corruption and the plundering of our natural and human resources; the crisis will worsen while those who implement these warlike policies will suffer no consequences in their daily lives or their quality of life.”
“The reality is that the United States profits from drug and arms trafficking in our region,” the statement added. “This siege only seeks to plunder the natural and energy resources of our sister countries, which they intend to subject to the same colonial tragedy that we are experiencing.”
