Puerto Rico tennis team to debut Friday at CAC Games

William Micheo, president of the Puerto Rico Tennis Association, announced on Thursday that the Puerto Rican delegation has arrived in Santo Domingo to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games tennis tournament, running from this Friday through July 31.

“Our tennis players arrive in the Dominican Republic after months of preparation and with a firm commitment to represent Puerto Rico with pride, discipline, and excellence,” Micheo stated in a written release. “We have full confidence in this delegation’s talent and are certain they will give their best in every match.” 

Puerto Rico’s contingent will feature Daniela O’Neill, Natalia Pérez and Lauren Kettlewell Sotomayor in the women’s division, led by captain Yolimar Ogando. The men’s team will consist of Yannik Álvarez, Marko Mesarovic Natal and Leonardo Javier Vega, with Juan Carlos “Juanqui” Fernández serving as captain.

The competition will bring together the region’s top tennis players and is part of the Olympic cycle for the participating athletes.

“This participation represents a valuable opportunity to showcase the competitive level Puerto Rican tennis has reached on the regional stage,” Micheo added. “We wish them great success and know they will have the support of all of Puerto Rico.”
