Gov. Jenniffer González Colón and Puerto Rico Tourism Company Executive Director Willianette Robles Cancel on Thursday officially welcomed senior executives of Contour Airlines and passengers arriving from Dominica (DOM) on the airline’s inaugural flight to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (AILMM) in Carolina.

Among the guests at the press conference and the inaugural flight welcome ceremony were Contour Airlines President Ben Munson; Contour Airlines Vice President Kelly Ginn; Lise Cuffy, the marketing executive of the Discover Dominica Authority; and Discover Puerto Rico CEO Jorge Pérez; along with other island officials.

“The arrival of Contour Airlines further strengthens Puerto Rico’s role as a strategic air connectivity hub in the Caribbean; we welcome them and thank them for their confidence in our destination,” the governor said. “We are pleased to have this new route between Dominica and San Juan, which we estimate will contribute more than $1.1 million to the economy during this semester. The airline’s winter season route between San Juan and St. Maarten will begin on November 14.”

“These flights are in addition to the new airlines, routes and increased frequencies on existing routes that we have announced in recent months,” González Colón added. “Our mission is to continue facilitating air access to strengthen our economy, boost tourism, and generate more opportunities for our people.”

Robles Cancel added that “the new Contour Airlines route, with four weekly flights between Dominica and Puerto Rico, will add 6,240 seats to the existing capacity.”

“This expansion facilitates the flow of visitors to the island, boosting tourism in the Caribbean region and generating a direct economic impact on local businesses, hotels, transportation, and services,” she said. “Furthermore, each new route brings us closer to our goal of positioning Puerto Rico as a strategic hub in the Caribbean, promoting regional connectivity and offering travelers more options for vacations, business trips, and to discover our culture, cuisine, and tourist attractions.”

“We are very excited to offer the comfortable and reliable service that characterizes Contour to Puerto Rico,” the airline’s president said. “This new connection makes traveling between Puerto Rico and Dominica even easier.”
