Santurce wins 3rd straight, Arecibo tops Mayagüez

The Piratas of Quebradillas, Cangrejeros of Santurce and Capitanes of Arecibo all notched victories in Superior National Basketball (BSN by its initials in Spanish) games on Saturday night.


At Raymond Dalmau Coliseum in Quebradillas, the Piratas defeated the Osos of Manatí, 87-85.


Quebradillas led for much of the contest and went into halftime with a 49-36 lead.


Manatí rallied in the fourth quarter with an 18-7 run to tie the score at 75, and the game remained tight until the final seconds.


The Osos’ Kristian Doolittle knotted the score at 85 from the free-throw line, but Emmanuel Mudiay’s basket with 21 seconds remaining proved to be the game-winner for the Piratas.


Mudiay led Quebradillas (5-16) with 21 points, and Grant Basile added 20.


Jameer Nelson Jr. finished with 31 points for Manatí (8-13), and Tyquan Rolón contributed 21.


Cangrejeros win 3rd straight

At Ismael “Chavalillo” Delgado Coliseum in Aguada, the Cangrejeros defeated the Santeros of Aguada, 108-83.


Santurce extended a seven-point first-quarter lead in the second frame and went into halftime with a 55-42 advantage.


The Cangrejeros turned back an attempted comeback by the hosts in the second half to win by a comfortable margin.


Davon Jefferson led Santurce (9-12) with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Ángel Matías added 18 points, and Jordan Howard finished with 17.


Rigoberto Mendoza scored 26 points for Aguada (10-10), and Noah Horchler added 20.


Capitanes take season series against Indios

The Capitanes defeated the Indios of Mayagüez 95-85 at Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum in Arecibo.

The Indios led 50-43 at halftime, but the Capitanes rallied in the third quarter (31-15) to take control of the game and entered the final 10 minutes with a 74-65 advantage.


Arecibo continued to widen the gap in the fourth quarter to secure the victory at home.


Timothy Soares led the Capitanes (14-5) with 29 points and seven rebounds. Jack McVeigh added 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Derrick Walton Jr. dished out 15 assists.


Nathan Sobey finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds for Mayagüez (8-13). Neftalí Álvarez added 14 points and Thomas Robinson contributed 13.
