Sabana Grande Mayor Marcos Valentín Flores on Tuesday urged all citizens to celebrate New Year’s Eve responsibly, avoiding the use of firearms and fireworks, thinking about the safety of all families in Sabana Grande.
“We want to carry a clear and forceful message: there is no justification for shooting into the air,” the mayor said. “Every time someone fires a gun during the holidays, they put the lives of innocent people at risk. That cannot be the way we receive the new year.”
Valentín Flores noted that through his call he seeks to raise awareness about the real dangers of the aforementioned practices, which have claimed lives in previous years and continue to be a cause of pain in many communities.
“The municipal administration wants this New Year’s Eve to be a beautiful, safe and peaceful celebration for everyone,” he said. “We do not want to regret avoidable tragedies.”
The mayor also urged citizens to avoid the dangers of the improper use of fireworks, especially among minors.
“We ask parents and caregivers to be vigilant,” he said. “Pyrotechnics are not a toy. A second of distraction can end in a medical emergency or a traumatic situation for an entire family.”
“We reiterate: no bullets in the air, no irresponsible use of pyrotechnics,” Valentín Flores added. “Let’s celebrate alive and for life.”
