Import pitcher Morgan Smith of the Prodigiosas of Sabana Grande delivered the most outstanding performance of the opening weekend of the 2026 Women’s Softball Premier League (LPSF by its initials in Spanish) season.
Smith pitched a no-hitter to lead the Prodigiosas to a 3-0 victory over the Grises of Humacao, becoming the first pitcher to complete a no-hitter in the young season. In six innings of work, the hurler from Phoenix struck out eight opposing batters.
The performance positioned Smith among the league leaders in several statistical categories. The former Rutgers University standout shares the lead in wins with Xeana Kamalani of the Valencianas of Juncos, with both pitchers recording two victories.
Likewise, Smith shares first place in ERA (0.00) with Mexican pitcher Yeraldine Carrión of the Caribeñas of Salinas.
Smith and Carrión also lead the league in shutouts, with one apiece. Carrión achieved hers on Saturday by dominating the Valencianas in a 3-0 victory, allowing just one hit and recording six strikeouts.
In the strikeouts category, Smith shares the top spot with Juncos pitchers Alexis Bermúdez and Alondra Pérez, all with nine K’s.
On the offensive side, Hailey Guerrero and Tatianna Román -- both of the Valencianas -- lead the league with a .625 batting average. The leaders in total hits are Elicia D’Orazio and Stormy Kotzelnick -- also both from Juncos -- with six hits each. D’Orazio is batting .600, while Kotzelnick is batting .500. The league lead in doubles is shared by Guerrero, Yahelis Muñoz of the Leonas of Ponce and Ciara Bryan of the Bravas of Cidra, with two each. Muñoz also ranks among the offensive leaders with a batting average of .571.
Meanwhile, Chloe Malau’ulu of the Prodigiosas holds the distinction of hitting the only home run recorded so far this season.
D’Orazio tops the league in runs batted in (RBIs) with six. Additionally, D’Orazio, Guerrero and Nia Carter of the Valencianas share the lead in runs scored, with four each.
In the walks category, Carter, Smith and Julianna Nieves of Sabana Grande share first place with three apiece. Kotzelnick leads in stolen bases with three.
The weekend’s action also marked a historic moment for the Valencianas, as Galis Lozada earned her first victory as a manager in the LPSF with a 3-1 win over the Caribeñas last Saturday.
Following the first weekend of play, the standings show Cidra in first place with a 1-0 record, followed by Juncos and Sabana Grande (both 3-1), Salinas (1-1), Ponce (1-2), and Humacao and the Costaneras of Guánica (both 0-2).
Week 2 play was to begin Wednesday evening with Humacao hosting Salinas.
