Salinas adds recycling plant to its industrial sector

Salinas marked a new milestone in its industrial sector earlier this week with the opening of Recicladora del Norte, a fully Puerto Rican recycling and materials‑processing company expanding its footprint in the southern coastal municipality.

Mayor Karilyn Bonilla Colón toured the newly inaugurated facilities, located in the PR‑701 Industrial Zone across from the La Margarita housing development and the Brisas del Mar residential complex. Accompanied by municipal legislators and company personnel, she highlighted the company’s role in strengthening local industry and contributing to Salinas’ economic activity.

“It is a great satisfaction for us to add this company to the prestigious list of industries and businesses operating in Salinas,” Bonilla Colón said during the visit.

The mayor noted that Recicladora del Norte processes roughly 72 million pounds of recyclable materials across its five plants throughout Puerto Rico and employs about 230 people.

The company also operates Eco Outlet, a retail store open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop offers a variety of plastic products — including tables, chairs, planters, containers and cups — at accessible prices.

Over the past three decades, Recicladora del Norte has evolved from a basic recovery and sorting operation into a manufacturer capable of producing value‑added goods, all while maintaining a commitment to sustainability and local development. Its services include customized recycling programs for municipalities, complete with consulting and detailed processing reports.

The company also handles the disposal and destruction of electronic equipment, offering certified secure destruction of hard drives and other devices. Its services are accredited by the National Association for Information Destruction.
