The San Juan Senators secured the permanence of player Kenen Irizarry for the next two seasons on Tuesday, extending his contract as part of the core of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League team.
“With this extension, we ensure we have one of the most versatile players on the team,” Senators General Manager Joey Solá said in a written statement. “He can play in the infield, he can play in the outfield, and he’s a great hitter. He gives us stability, as he can play any position in the infield, and it’s very important to have him on our roster.”
Irizarry, 25, has eight seasons of professional experience and has been an important figure for the San Juan team due to his offensive and defensive consistency. The Yauco native has most recently played in an independent league for teams in Ohio and Quebec, Canada.
“Thank God for making this possible. Grateful for the opportunity to continue wearing the San Juan Senators uniform for two more years,” Irizarry said in a written statement. “The Senators have become my home. The best is yet to come.”
The Senators will kick off the 2025-26 season on Nov. 6, when they visit the Mayagüez Indians at Isidoro “Cholo” García Stadium.
