In the early hours of Saturday, the Municipality of San Juan and officials from the island Treasury Department conducted enforcement actions at several commercial establishments, issuing 30 fines totaling $41,300.
During one of the operations, Municipal Police officers also seized seven firearms, 30 magazines, and 579 rounds of ammunition for investigative purposes.
As part of the operational plan, officers arrived at “Golden Market” -- located at the corner of Avenida A and Calle Brasil in the Barrio Obrero neighborhood -- at approximately 2:55 a.m. to conduct an inspection. Upon arrival, they found the doors closed, with a security guard controlling access to the premises.
The Municipal Police requested entry for the regulatory agencies to carry out the inspection. Once inside, officials discovered dozens of customers and found the establishment in full operation. The inspection revealed violations of the Public Order Code and other applicable regulations, leading the participating agencies to issue fines. Alcoholic beverages were also seized.
At the scene, authorities confiscated seven firearms -- six of which were capable of automatic fire -- along with 30 magazines and 579 rounds of ammunition.
The operation also included inspections at other commercial establishments. In total, the Permits Office issued 10 fines totaling $20,800, the Treasury Department issued 11 fines totaling $7,500, and the Municipal Police -- through enforcement actions related to the Public Order Code -- issued nine fines totaling $13,000.
