Santeros, Vaqueros rebound to even their respective BSN semifinals series

The Santeros of Aguada and the Vaqueros of Bayamón were winners on Saturday night in a pair of National Superior Basketball (BSN by its initials in Spanish) postseason semifinal games.
At Ismael “Chavalillo” Delgado Coliseum in Aguada, the Santeros defeated the Capitanes of Arecibo 83-79 to even the Conference B semifinal series at a game apiece.
After leading 42-37 at half-time, Aguada extended the advantage to nine points after three quarters, 66-57. A late rally by Arecibo fell short.
The Santeros led for 37:53 of the 40-minute game and dominated the paint, scoring 42 points there.
Jacob Wiley led the way for Aguada with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Joel Soriano also recorded a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Rigoberto Mendoza added 22 points and six rebounds.
Timothy Soares finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Capitanes. Alfonso Plummer scored 16 points and Jonathan Zhao added 11.
Game 3 will be played tonight (8 p.m.) at Manuel “Petaca” Iguina Coliseum in Arecibo.
Meanwhile, at Carlos Miguel Mangual Coliseum in Canóvanas, the Vaqueros defeated the Gigantes of Carolina/Canóvanas 73-71, tying the Conference A semifinal series at 1-1 and reclaiming home-court advantage.
After three-plus tightly contested quarters, the Vaqueros held off the Gigantes in the closing minutes to secure the victory and tie the series.
Chris McCullough had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in his debut for the Vaqueros. Stephen Thompson Jr. added 16 points.
George Conditt IV led the Gigantes with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Tremont Waters also scored 17 points.
Game 3 is tonight (8 p.m.) at Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamón.
